How to slow motion end of sequence

Hi All,

I'm a newbie, installed a demo version and I find it very interesting and easy to use than Adobe.

What I needed to know is:

-I add an mpeg file called sequence_1 which is about 10 seconds long.
-I can make the entire sequence in slow motion by decreasing the playback rate,
but how can I do the slow motion on the last two seconds of the sequence only.

i.e. sequence_1> 1-8 seconds playback rate=1.000 ; 8-10 seconds playback rate=0.500

I hope this make sense.

If this is possible then I will have to purchase this product.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Arv.

Put in a Velocity envelope on the track. Go to the exact Time point, place marker. Select Marker. Right Click on the VelEnv Add 2 Points. Pull down 2nd Point to required value. 100%=normal speed; greater than this=faster than normal speed; less than 100%=slower than normal speed; zero%=standstill AND negative "%"=reverse. Simple as that! To get the exact "%" Right click on the Point and you'll get a submenu to make many more "exact" options.

My only concern is that you are working on MPEG and not native AVI. Others may jump in here, but I reckon you may drop into some "flicker" and other artifact issues. I'd prefer, and always attempt, to editing in pure AVI - yeah?

Hope this helps,

Grazie

Grazies suggestion will allow you to go smoothly from full speed to slow, or full stop. If you just want a direct jump it's probably easier to split the event (place cursor, hit -s-) and reduce playback rate for the event after the split. The quickest way to do that is (after the split): Crtl-drag the edge of the event to the desired length and it will play back slower. You'll see a zigzag line along the event indicating it's been slowed down.

Grazies and Tor,

Thank you for your detailed response. I really appreciate your help on this issue.

I have replicated both of your suggestions and they work the same way. As grazies mentioned, I did notice a little jump of the frame. Tried it on AVI and worked flawlessly.

This one is a buy. Easy to learn and manage than Adobe. For some reason, Adobe tends to hog lot's of physical memory and very slow on my pc whereas Vegas, it's darn fast.

The only thing about Vegas is the lack of plug-ins for transitions and effects. If you know any site that you can recommend it will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

"The only thing about Vegas is the lack of plug-ins for transitions and effects. "

Welll....... let me list the many ways I love her!

1 - Scripting: Automation of repetitive tasks. These turn out to be a type of plugin when used in conjunction with one's own creativity.

2 - Scripting: A Vegas Forum specific for those amongst us - me included - who don't have the savvy to programme a dog kennel! Not neccesarily a plug-in, but a sharing forum for the development of scripts that assist us to dio things better.

3 - Template Keepers: Ways in which I can "save" FXs the way I want, to be used latter - Another "type" of "plugin" which I've created myself!

4 - SATISH! Ah Satish . . . the MAN! He's been creating valuable Pluggies, and is continuing to produce all sorts.

5 - SDMoore! Another plugin developer. You should see his revolving CUBES!

6 - NOW Excalibur! - A Set of Wizards which do more than cast spells! I'd call them plugin helpers . . . .

. . . that'll do me for the moment . . .

. . . . oh did I mention scripting?

The point I'm making, I think, is that compared to "other" NLE systems, maybe trannies and dissolve "extras" are thin on the ground as downloadable "plugins", but the good folks at SoFo have developed an NLE system that provides ways in which the "operator" can be very creative themselves. IMHO it is similar to a motor car manufacturer who's produced an excellent car and said - "Right, here's the car! You want it in red? Here's the spray machine - we provide it free. You want to increase the power of the car? Here's a lathe and a manual to learn how to use this lathe." . . . and so on!

Plugins for trannies & dissolves . . . I feel there is enough within the V4 platform already. Look at any excellent movie made arouind the World. What makes them excellent? Very simple trannies or even straight cuts, coming from a well written script and film beautifully. Extra trannies and dissolves? I've got enough in learning what I've got already.

If you do go ahead and buy V4, welcome aboard!

Grazie,

You are right. I have been playing around with scripts and such. Events are plain as it is, but it comes down to how you want to use it and it always depends on the environment you are creating.

Imaginative minds does it better and sometimes you wonder how did they do that?

Anyway, the longer I use Vegas, I adopt to it so quickly. I am in the middle of the manual and still learning new things.

This is worth the money. And a forum like this with a wide user base and helpfull, you can't go wrong. Will be purchasing in next week or so when pay day arrives :)

Thanks to all.
