How to stabilize on object?

Hi,

I got Vegas Pro 14.0 via the humble bundle. Now I am editing a skiing clip of my go pro.

So I was following another skier and the footage is quite shaky and also the skier is not very good in the center of the frame. Sometimes the skier is a bit to the right and sometimes the skier is a bit to the left; same for up and down the center.

So I can crop frame by frame to have the skier in the center of the frame and also to stabilize the footage on him. But this is a lot of manual work and I was wondering what the best way is to approach this? What functions should I use? I know to use the FX media > Stabilize function but this does not focus on the subject I want to track.

Any help appreciated!

For me it sounds like a task for the new Bezier Masking (Motion Tracker) tool in combination with the Croping tool. This tool is available in Vegas Pro 16.

So, how does that help the person who asked how to do it in VP 14?

He now knows that there may be tools in the latest version of Vegas Pro to use for his corrections and can download the trial version of Vegas Pro 16 and try it out.

BTW, how does your reply help him?

WakyEggs, you could probably do better with the free HitFilm Express, but that requires a learning curve of that program. Likewise maybe the free DaVinci Resolve 15, again requiring a learning curve. I would go with the trial version of VP16, it cost nothing to try and should be familiar to you. Perhaps there is a Youtube tutorial out there somewhere how to use the Bezier Masking (Motion Tracker) tool, and if you like it enough to upgrade, there are many other features you may like.
