How to stop Mic Pop ?

I'm doing a voice over and am working for the first time with a headset and boom mic.

The mic came with a small wind screen on the mic... but...

It seems almost impossible to keep the mic from popping on p's and other sounds.

I finally bent the boom backwards so the mic is to the left side of my face and clearly away from my mouth... sticking out to the side about 5-6 inches.

BUT... now, I have the gain so high that I pickup the noises of the headset moving around on my head as I talk and move my head...

The headset & boom mic are really easy from a mechanical point of view and I have seen folks on stage with such... and the mic's are right in front of their lips...

Can anyone make suggestions on solutiuons to this problem?

thanks - Will

You might want to try a different pop filter screen. Another thing, that I have done, is that you place the mic near your forehead and point it down towards your mouth. When you do your voice over, don't look up towards the mic, look straight ahead as usual. This will allow the burst of air caused by the "p" sounds to travel under the diaphram of the mic elliminating the pop sound, yet the main pickup pattern of the mic is still pointed towards your mouth.

Try a couple of inches away, but off to the side and facing *across* your mouth at around 45 degrees - not staright on.

Or modify voice !

Often those headset mics you see smack bang in front of the mouth, while the pretty boys and girls dance and sing, are there for cosmetic reasons only. Like Milli Vanilli.
