How to stop VidCap6.0 from crashing?

Hi,
I have been experiencing frequent crashes in the Video Capture 6.0e Build 1000 that came with my Vegas Movie Studio product. I get these crashes trying to capture DV video from my Sony DCR-TRV22 camcorder. Note that the camcorder is connected to the computer via firewire. The crashes occur when using program controls to rewind or fast forward when previewing the tape. Note that I can capture video without crashing if I just let it capture, but I frequently want to preview the tape 1st.
I have searched the KB and the web, but I have not seen any solutions to this.
Please note that I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the software.
This version of the Video Capture software seems quite old. Are there any updates to it?
Any ideas how to resolve this?

It's actually been stable for me on both Windows XP and Windows 7, so it may be a program conflict or something else in your OS configuration.

Meantime, try downloading a free program called WinDV. It's a very stable program for capturing miniDV over FireWire, and the DV-AVIs it produces are 100% compatible with all versions of Movie Studio. If you can't get VidCap working, it's a great, full-featured alternative.

Loading the legacy 1394 drivers in Windows Device Mangler seems to solve it for a lot of folks.

musicvid10 - "... Windows Device Mangler"?
Can't tell if it was a very late night typo or an on purpose pun.
Either way, I couldn't help but chuckle.
But I'll refrain from going into some cookie-cutter Microsoft rant. lol
