How to switch

liquid wrote on 2/24/2004, 7:08 AM
Lets say I take a file and edit it exactly how I want on the time line. But I have other versions of the images on different files, and I just want to switch the files on the time line applying the edits to the new files....Is there an easy way to do this?
on a separte note, I can't figure out which update to instal.....should I use the vegas pro 1.0b or vegas update 4.0e???????? I'm using vagas 4.0....but what's this vegas pro stuff?

First off, Vegas Pro 1.0b is just that, version 1 pro. It's very very ancient, and besides it only does audio, and on top of that you probably don't have a license key for it anyway.

Have you tried using takes? If you right-mouse-button drag a file from explorer on top of an existing event in the timeline you will be given the option to "Add as takes". This lets you stack up multiple images/clips/whatever on a single event. Then you can rotate through all the takes in that event to see what they look like in the preview window.

Right click the new image, and drag it to the timeline, drop it on the image you wish to replace. Release the right click. Choose add as take. This will replace the old file. All filters, pan/crops, etc applied to the original image will still be in place, only now seen on the new media. You can also press the "T" key while watching the media, and this will Take you back to the original Take. You can also right click the layered file, and choose which version/take you wish to view.
There is no such thing as Vegas Pro. Vegas Pro was the first version of Vegas nearly6 years ago. The concept of Vegas Pro was recently floated by a person who drinks too much caffiene, has ADD, and can't focus on reality for longer than a few moments. Vegas is NOT called Vegas Pro, it won't be called Vegas Pro in the future, I don't think, so just ignore any and all ridiculous references to this now-confusing power trip instigated by a wild man. It's come up in at least 5 Vegas forums I'm involved in. Geez!

For some reason adding a take almost never works for me unless I do the following first:
Select the event you are adding a take to
Select the left edge of that event by using the 7 on the numeric keypad

(in my case I am usually adding video only, so I select video only >add as take)

If I don't select the left edge first, it usually ends up with one clip over the other as a long dissolve.

Are you sure you're right-mouse-button-dragging the new clip on top of the existing one?

Yup. LIke I said I am mainly doing this and choosing "Video Only as Take"

If I don't select the left event edge, a lot of times that option is greyed out.

The takes things is cool, glad I had time to figure it out, but it's not helping much. It's changing the file it uses on the time line, and applying the edits, but not at the same place on the time code!!! It's simply taking the start of the file and applying that, when what I want is for it to take the same edits in time on the file and apply it to the time on the timeline........am I making any sense to anyone other than me?
I"m so depreesed. I'm going to have to start a project over that took me two weeks to accomplish!!!!
Ah...I hate computers sometimes.
