How to uninstall / reinstall Vegas 6?

Hey there folks...

To make a long story short, I took my computer in to the shop for a simple HDD upgrade and data transfer... Somehow, they eventually admitted, the damaged my CPU and had to replace it. I also figured out since one of my cards was missing when I picked it up, that they removed the motherboard, and may have replace it as well, which leads to my problem, which I'm guessing is being cause by the fact that my computer ID has probably changed with my new hardware....

I can't open Vegas 6. When I try to, I get an error message...

"This application is not properly install. Please reinstall this software.."

When I try to reinstall from the Vegas 6 CD, I get the following message...

"Sony Media Manager has been successfully installed"

But when I try to open Vegas 6, I still get the original error message. Soooo.... My question is...

Do I need to uninstall Vegas 6 in order to reinstall?

If so, how do I uninstall Vegas 6?

I can't find anything in the Vegas 6 Users Manual that addresses reinstalling or uninstalling the software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Pretty much the same way you uninstall almost any program in Windows:

Control Panel>Add/Remove Program, select Vegas from the list and click the Remove button.

Also, don't install from the CD. Instead, download the latest version from Sony's Updates page.

As with most Windows applications, Control Panel / Add Remove Programs.

Just in case anyone else has a problem reinstalling, here is the actual procedure from Sony for a clean reinstallation of Vegas 6.0:

1. Go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and uninstall Vegas 6.0

2. Uninstall Sony Media Manager 2.0

3. Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR)

4. Uninstall Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library if installed.

5. Completely delete the Media Manager directory.

Normally this is C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager. Go to C:\Program Files\Sony Setup and delete any Vegas 6.0 folders here.

6. Rename the My Documents\Sony Media Libraries folder to something else. When the media manager is running again, you can selectively try to open your older .medialib files and see if one is causing havoc.

7. Go into the Start menu, select Run and type regedit into the field provided. Then scroll up to the top of the Registry Editor window and go to the two locations listed below and delete the Vegas 6.0 folders there:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Sony Media Software

HKEY_CURRENT USER/Software/Sony Media Software

8. Reboot (seriously)

9. Try to close any running applications (esp. those in the system tray) – the SQL server portion of the install can be touchy regarding other running applications.

10. Run the Vegas installer from the latest update; http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/download/step2.asp?DID=579
