How to upgrade to v10?

cgarn wrote on 7/1/2010, 7:23 AM
I got a new computer about a month ago and downloaded the VMS 9.0b platinum trial. I did not purchase since I knew VMS 10 was coming out. Now I have the expired 9.0b on my computer and was going to download the 10 trial to make sure I can get it to work then buy it. What is the best way to install the new program as I am trying to not "junk up" my new computer with programs that I'll never use.

Should I uninstall 9.0b first? Or is it best to uninstall after installing v10? Or should I just install v10 and leave 9.0b alone?

Thanks for any tips or advise on how to get a good install.

Since you never purchased version 9 it doesn't really make much sense to leave it there. There have been some very rare reports that deleting an old version after the new one is installed sometimes damages the new installation, but this is very uncommon. However, taking these two points together i would suggest uninstall 9 before installing 10 just to be safe.

Probably though, any way you choose will be fine.

I have a similar issue - I owned 4.0 -
downloaded the 9 plat free trial and unistalled 4.0
now 9 expires in 3 days and I want to try 10 to see if it works -
question:
should I uninstall 9 / or wait till it expires b4 installing 10 -
( I want to pay for only the upgrade when I choose to purchase -
but want to make sure Sony know I owned Vegas movie studio and dont charge me the whole amount - just the upgrade to 9 or 10 )
they are closed today - so not sure what to do

Was 4.0 the pro version? If yes, I'd use 4.0 to upgrade to 9.0pro.

As for 9 expiring in 3 days, you would need to purchase 10 since that is the current version unless you either find a copy of 9 at a reseller or can talk customer service into selling you 9 instead.

I also have VMS 4.0 which makes me eligilble for the upgrade price on VMS10 plat. I do not have it installed on this computer, will I need to install 4.0 before activating vms 10?

4.0 shows up in "My software" on this site so I assume that should be enough.

I am using both versions, reasons:

9 for project; I like the preview pane more, it is stable and does not lag compared to 10. Saved the file and later open it with 10 to render because it offers options to adjust the Variable Bit Rate.

Occasionally, I would use the 'Stabilize Media' from 10 but so far it has given poor rendered results. Until Sony improves with a newer release for VMS10, I will still continue to use 9.
