How to use grouping

Can grouping be used to adjust the time length of a sequence of events, if all are in the same group?

I wanted to shorten the running time of a string of events so that each event was shortened equally, so grouped them and tried to adjust the running time of the group by manipulating the end-point of the entire group. Only the last event in the group was shortened. Is this not a proper use of grouping?

If grouping isn't used to do this, does something else work?

P.S. This is a great forum!

Hold the Ctrl key down while dragging the end of the last event. This should do what you're looking for. If the events are stills, they'll be shortened proportionally. If they're video clips, they'll all be sped up proportionally.

I have found that this works great. But if you have gaps between stills, this method will also lengthen the gaps. I am looking for a way to do the following (for example):

Place multiple, 5-second stills in a timeline, each separated by a 4-second gap. Then group the stills and lengthen just the stills without lengthening the gaps.

I'm experimenting with ways to add automatic crossfades using the video and overlay tracks and being able to do what I have described would be real handy. If I can get this to work I'll post my solution.

I agree, I have learned a lot from this forum. Many things which aren't in the manual, such as Chienworks group/ctrl-drag tip.
