How to use VST Audio Plugins

superlizard wrote on 3/6/2005, 9:16 PM
Can VST plugins from other vendors (I.e. Steinberg WaveLab), be imported to Vegas 5 and how?

For example, WaveLab comes with 2 really good plugins (Stereoexpander, and Spectralizer - stored as dll's on the filesystem), and i couldn't find anything similar in Vegas. Any help would be greatelly appreciated.

I don't think Vegas 5.0 runs VST plugins. It would be nice though. Perhaps 6.0 will.

Use many of the available DX-VST 'wrappers". I'm sure V6 will support VST, just as announced for Acid and SF.

Directixer usually works pretty good. Not all internal steinberg VST's will work outside of wavelab or cubendo, but many others will

I've had pretty good luck with Spin Audio's DX wrapper. About the only thing that has any problems is the Princeton 2016 Stereo Room...it works just fine, but Vegas will always crash when I close the project or exit Vegas when it's in use. Since you normally save things before you close, it hasn't been a big issue...especially since I got the UA emulation of the EMT140 plate reverb...the only thing I've found that sounds even better than the 2016.

PS: YES, Vegas 6 had better have VST support.

I have been using Directixer and it has been working great for me.

It is a good deal at $39 or whatever the developer is charging for it
these days. I purchased it after trying a few other VST-DX wrapper demos.
Directixer was the best by far.

On the other hand, I suspect Vegas 6 will support VST directly, so you may
just want to wait.
