how to verify bitrate after burning

Is there a way to verify or see what the bitrate of a project is after the disc is burned?

I'm having trouble with a new project not playing on a-little-bit-older-dvd-players. Currently I've tried lowering the bitrate to less than 4.0 and a 38 minute project will only play on a 1 year old cheapy dvd-tv combo but not on my 3 year old samsung dvd-vcr combo that I've used to make vcr copies of projects for those who haven't gotten into the dvd-players yet.

That is why I ask, " Is there a way to verify or see what the bitrate of a project is after the disc is burned?"

I thought maybe WinAmp/Windows Media player or CreativeLabs Playcenter would show the rate. So much for 'thinking'!

Thank you all for your kind help!
Mr. @rlin

There's a free bitrate viewer at www.tecoltd.com

Generally if a DVD player is more than two years old, it isn't likely to play recordable DVD's.

I'm having no problem with DVD players 3 and 4 years old, with the bit rate at 6000VBR. I use DVD+R Media and set the book-type to DVD-ROM with Nero. This is supposed to make burned DVDs more compatible with older players. Supposed to help with dual layer also, although I haven't test that.
