How to write to 8.5 GB disc

How do I write a 2 hour 50 minutes, (8GB) mpg to a 8.5 disc?

Vegas - Tools - Burn Disc - DVD doesn't allow for 8.5 GB discs
So I"m using DVD-A. In properties - Target Media I select 8.5
Clicked on Make DVD - prepare - next I still get the msg "The estmtd size is lager than media..........." On the same window it says "Estimated prj size 8.6GB"
Clicking on "Optimize" & "Fit to disc" still reports "Media too big for single disc......"

How do I proceed?

It's been a while since I've made a dual layer DVD so this might be a bit out of whack but should give you enough of a clue to get going.

An 8,5GB disk is two disks sandwiched together as layers. In DVDA you have to specify where the layer break will occur i.e. where to make the split into two 4.7GB layers. Generally best to make this at a chapter or fade to black as there will likely be a pause in playback while the layer change happens. Pretty certain all this is covered in the DVDA manual and help files.

I'll also note that DVDA's size estimates are notoriously high. If it says 8.6GB then it's probably really only going to take up 8GB. Just ignore the warning and go on.
