How Vegas 5 is Like Angelina Jolie...

This is ridiculous...hearing all the whining about the UI is plain silly. Really.

=====================
Sounds like, if Some of you guys had a date with Angelina Jolie, you'd probably be complaining about her tatoos.
=====================

LOL.

get over it.

It's what's on the inside that counts. That's what gets me passionate!

Vegas Rocks.

And if you had a date with Pamela Anderson, you'd complain that about her wearing pink instead of blue.

Get over it. Look at the new functionality, and figure out how it will help make your video projects more successful.

You know, the Important stuff.

I love the look . . I also reeeally appreciate that there appears to be some "clever" graphics" people inputting to Our Vegas platform . .THIS must bode very well for our product . .. we must be witnessing here something else too . . there HAS to be a clever longterm appproach being rolled out in front of our very eyes . . .

I like the look and feel .. . I love the new functionality . .

I think you've kind of defeated your own argument. You're right, with both women and software it is what's on the inside that counts. I think the complaint about the later is that more work went into what's on the outside than what's on the inside. I'll reserve my judgement about the inside of Vegas until after I've had more time to use it, but it does seem that a lot of the comments about the UI are being taken out of context.

If the UI changes are so bad then why assume they spent all this time and resources on it? Vegas's time line performance has been improved. I don't know how much resources was spent on that, do you?

but it does seem that a lot of the comments about the UI are being taken out of context.

Here is the Smurfy, Gummy Bears, Barbie, Hello Kitty, Cutesy Cuddly, Cartoon NLE...

You just have to laugh, Bob.

Well it looks fine to me and I've never made any comment one way or the other. But what I think really doesn't matter, in fact what most of us here think about it , or about what we got or didn't, doesn't matter either. It's what those who aren't Vegas users think that really matters.
If you and I thought Vegas was a dud why would we be spending time posting about it (well unless you unZipped in some way) anyway?

ken,
What's on the inside of Angelina Jolie? I mean, I know whats on the inside of Pamela Anderson, because most of it is man-made and comes from a big, polluting factory somewhere - but what's on the inside of Angelina Jolie, that get's you passionate?

You see I'm threading the water here, because I haven't got around to installing XP yet. Even though some of you may say the move was inevitable and all of you will say Sony never tell anyone what they do before they do it, I still think the fact that we will need Win2k or XP should have been put to us earlier. Especially if upgrading can get me on the inside of Angelina Jolie.

Does Win 2000 ALLOW installing on more than one machine or does it merely make it possible?

Although I agree to some point that Vegas 5 should be 4.5, especially if you compare the step up we gained from Vegas 3 to Vegas 4. However, with that said, there are some unpublisized beauty of improvements I really like....especially being able to use your external monitor and use the color picker with the color correction plugins (preview window activates). I just finished a huge color correction project (my son missed the white balance on one of the cameras) and the time savings alone justified the upgrade cost.....

The date option didn't appear in my e-mail ad. Is she a separate download?

You only get the blow up Angelina doll with the boxed version.

>>If the machine breaks, you have to buy a new machine AND a new copy of XP.

Is this true? Sounds unlawful to me.

Anyway, I think I'm heading the XP way. Being left out in the dark like I was on the 19 of April has tought me to go for the best. If Microsoft thought Win2000 was the way to go, then that too would be installable on one machine only.

The restriction on XP I think only applies to the OEM version, the uStuff spin on it is that it was part of the computer, if you replace the computer then you have to replce the OS. That was the story I headr some time ago but there were howls of protest so maybe it got changed.
Win2K doesn't require activation so is much more flexible, saddened to see Sony have continued with product activation in Vegas 5.

I'd like to know about that too (installing on two machines...) 'cause I got a machine at home and a laptop. Both equipped with V4. I hope it's possible with V5 too. And since I may upgrade my home machine during this year, I'd like to know I'm gonna be able to install V5 on this new machine. I don't care about uninstalling on one of those so I can install on a third one. I only need *two working V5s*... but I want those!

And I don't mind pink or blue or nothing at all... I'd rather go with the tatooed brunette. ¦ P

Hmmmm. i may be wrong but?? It hink this has already been covered.sooo.. Isnt it the fact that Sony just made the UI XP friendly?? If you want the old interface just adjust your settings in your OS.. Xp affords the ability to use the slick new interface or the old classic.. my 2c

Wouldn't disabling the "Enable XP Themes Support" option in Vegas Preferences accomplish the same thing?

I'm not sure because I don't even have the "Themes" service enabled in Windows, but it would make sense.

There's a few other suggestions in this thread.

FuTz wrote on 4/21/2004, 9:10 AM
Concerning Vegas apearances, yeah. I guess getting this "Win2k" ("classical"?) pref in XP and thinkering with colors (see MartyHedler's site (http://www.martyhedler.com/homepage/Vegas_Tutorials.html ) ( see: "apppearance") so you get this "video Neutral GREY GUI" is the solution. You can even get everything black with white or lime green text if that suits you...

All this complaining about GUI, I don't care that much. It's what's under the hood that interests me... but if Vegas provided like 4-5 different "ready to use" skins, everybody would be happy...

I heard she is kinda ugly with the clothes off.. And the Billy Bob Tattoo yes would make it hard to concentrate and keep my mind on the task at hand.. lol

Could I get a different doll? I'm not an Angelina fan (well, not fan of her recent work).

And check this out! It *IS* a hello-kitty-cartoony-interface!

members.localnet.com/~elsysop/V5-hello kitty interface.jpg

it's not just some of us! And I have Win2k so there's no XP-theme's possible on mine.

lol ok you guys crack me up... great sense o humor!

anyway, yeah I suppose if they could add a skinnable choice that would be a plus to sooth the sanrio non-fans out there ..

but hey if it's Angelina Jolie, it's ok if she has tatoos.. I would concentrate on the more important, assetts, so to speak, than the surface..

same w/vegas 5..

How Vegas 5 is like Angelina Jolie:
========================
Depends upon several factors.....

1. Available "Plug-Ins"

2. Whether or not "snapping" is enabled

3. Which looks better in the "Media Pool"

I for one would definitely need something to disable pop-ups.
