How would I create this effect?

I'm trying to create a simple effect, and having a dickens of a time. You see it all the time in commercials. I want a slim vertical highlight to pass through my text, one letter at a time. Kind of a quick swooshing through the word, brightening and blurring whatever it passes through. Any suggestions?

Thanks, that was a real learning experience. I had never used parent/child masking, and it opens up a whole world of possibilities. Video as text...reversed colors in boxed areas...I would love to see some interesting effects you've mocked up, if you ever want to post an addendum to that tutorial.

AMEN............ Gary Gowman is one of the best helpers for tricky stuff in Vegas. The guy is a Trooper. Everyone speak up and say thanks to him for all his help. One of the really good guys!

Gary, let other people answer the simple stuff, we need your energy on tricky things.
