HP Laptop/Presonus FirestudioProject/Vegas Snag

Problem with Vegas 7/HP Laptop running Vista Home Premium/Presonus Firestudio Project.

I've been through a very hard time getting firewire to work with my new laptop, but after disabling a number of Devices, *Wireless internet* most importantly, it's working.

My current nag is only when running Vegas:

When *Playing back* audio, often, when I zoom in or out, the audio drops out, the timeline still moves, but the LED readouts are dead, no sound comes out of the speakers. If/when I hit the play button, or the space bar, the timeline cursor returns *all the way* to the beginning.

Then...if I hit Stop & Play again, or the space bar twice, it goes back to where i was in the timeline and continues with audio back on.

Other times, the audio output will stop if I try to make an edit (like a fade in/out) to an event. Pressing stop/play/stop/play again, the audio and the timeline will continue.

Sometimes it stops for no reason I noticed.

Each time the audio stops (and the timeline continues), if I press stop or play, it always goes to the very beginning of the file. Pressing stop/play again returns it to the correct spot in the timeline.

Clicking start/stop/start/stop is a workaround for finding my way back to where I was, but it would be nice to figure out what's doing it.

Thanks for any ideas.

I'm sorry to say, but I would point at the Firestudio.
I've had bad experience with that model, where it could not handle switching between sample rates correctly - and similar issues to you. Replaced with a different audio unit, and problems went away.
Their support was terrible too.

But naturally I could be wrong :)

I've had the same problem with both Presonus and Alesis firewire gear. Returned them both. It may be due to the poor firewire drivers in windows also. M$ has had a lot of patches to their firewire over the years and it still doesn't work very well.

My solution is to use Echo gear. I have an Audiofire 8 and a Layla 3G. They wrote their own firewire driver and it works impeccably. The analog performance is also top notch.

Thanks for the help guys.
bastinado, I did have an Echo Layla back when, but switched to the Alesis FW mixer to slim down.
Sold the Alesis on ebay when I got the Presonus Project which is working fine now.

The problem was my Wireless Internet. I disable the Broadcom drivers now when recording or listening to music, and all is well.
