HT Encoding while Surfing....

Well this is the first time I have tried surfing the net and encoding at the same time with my new machine that has Hyperthreading.... I'll let you all know how it goes when I'm done.... I'm encoding 56 minutes of video in MPEG2 format to burn to DVD. I'll give you answers later and perhaps some thoughts if it does not go well.

Rendering/encoding doesn't care in the least if you're doing something else with the computer at the same time. It's not like capturing or printing-to-tape which are real time operations. Rendering/encoding can continue just fine no matter how busy the computer is ... it just may take a bit longer.

Understood...Just to let ya know I also burned to dvd without problem, Guess the next test should be to output back to tape....

How about rendering two projects at the same time with two Vegas's running? I would be interested to see if it rendered about the same speed as if you were only rendering one. Or maybe just render from one Vegas and do playback on another vegas project with several video filters applied to see how well it handeled that. I would be very interested in your results as this may be my next upgrade if you have good results!!

This is what I'm interested in:

1 - Start Project 1 version 0 [Proj 1.0 ] and edit
2 - Decide to Render Proj1.0
3 - Copy Proj1 and Create NEW instance of Vegas and paste this into new Proj1.1
4 - Go Back to Proj1.0 render
5 - Go back to Proj1.1 - Go on editing Proj1.1 while Proj 1.0 is rendering
6 - Update Proj 1.1 with Proj 1.0 renders

. . . . move on to Proj 1.2 . . .. move onto Proj 1.4 . . . ..

This will mean that I have been rendering while editing - I know that is whay others have been doing too, but seeing is believing - just done this at PCWorld 3gb P4 Dual HT with 1gb RAM - coooo this is one fast machine.
