High-Definition Versatile Disc (HVD) is a format originated in China that uses different compression to attain 1080i native resolution using a standard DVD-9 red laser disc. They run a little less money-wise than standard DVD's- probably due to the film that is on them (non-hollywood).
The InPhase holographic optical disc is slated to ship by the end of the year. It will initially be a 300 gig write-once disc, but they expect to deliver 800 GB WORM discs in 2008 and 1.6 TB WORM discs in 2010, all backward-compatible with the 300 GB discs.
