HVR-A1U question for Spot

earthrisers wrote on 2/2/2006, 2:45 AM
When the HVR-A1U was announced, we decided not even to look at it, because its tape-load mechanism is at the bottom. (We shoot live performances, using a tripod, and we usually have to change tapes quickly during a show... can't deal with unscrewing the camera from the tripod, etc. to change the tape.)

But there's currently a very attractive price break ont he camera, so we're probing a bit...

Spot, you mentioned in your early review of the Camera that there are "standoff" devices available for overcoming Sony's bad placement of the tape-change door. Are those devices readily commercially available... and effective?
Thanks much.

I'm not Spot, but an earlier post by him pointed me to this

HC1 tripod adapter

which I bought and it works well. Just need to check it will fit your tripod OK. He's also coming out with a new model to fit larger tripods.

I have one of those. It works great and totally fixes the bottom loading problem.

I bought one off ebay from a guy who makes his own. It works great- no problems and it was under 20 bucks. He says that if it doesn't work with your tripod, just email him and he will make you a custom. I just did a search on ebay for hvr-a1 and found it.

Looks like everyone beat me to the right answer. :-)
The guy that builds those is also building a new model with taps on it so you can mount accessories on the device if you need to. Looking forward to seeing that one.

How about something to fix the goofy hot shoe?

I know this is an old thread but thought this might help as the seller has nothing on eBay at the moment.

His website is
http://www.dm-accessories.com/index.php

and yes he does have an answer for the goofy hot shoe.

Or you can buy a Cavision RPSHC Spacer from B&H for $19.95. I’m waiting for them to come back in stock.
