exspree wrote on 8/1/2005, 6:47 PM
I've checked over everything and still can't get this arch to fully author a dvd! I've used pinnacle and never had any problems... I move up to Sony and no matter what I try, NADA! This is really messed up! I should have done more research on this sorry excuse for a program! Anybody else un-able to burn a damn DVD?

Without telling us any details about exactly what kind of problem you are encountering there's no way anyone can help you. Rather than just screaming about the problem, how about providing some details such as exactly what software you are using, what hardware, what kind of burner you have, what kind of an error (if any).

Or, if you aren't interested in peer support (which is all the folks here can provide), log a formal support call with Sony - just click on the support link at the top of this page.

By the way, I am perfectly able to burn DVD's with DVDA on 2 different machines without problems - though admittedly, other people posting here have experienced certain issues. Given the wide variety of hardware and software thats installed on various computers these days, as well as all of the other variables, it's not really a surprise that problems are encountered from time to time. And, I'll be the first to admit that DVDA isn't the best burning software around - I consider it to be authoring software and I use other utilities such as Nero or CopyToDVD to do my burning.

I'm sorry to say - since I started using DVDA to burn my DVDs they fail... Other programs - Roxio Easy Media Creator (DVD Creator), Pinnacle (although naff for everything else), among others, never fail. But with Sony DVDA its as if it does not finalise the disc. It does put data on it but it will not work in ANY device I put it in.

I would suggest following the often recommended solution in these forums:
Use DVDA to prepare the DVD content and use something else like Nero, Roxio etc to burn the content to the DVD. Using that process I don't get failures. It's only when I forget and try doing the whole thing in DVDA that I get coasters!!!

I started having burning problems with my Sony DRU800 after installing V 3.0b. I haven't been able to burn a DVD on that burner since, and have made about 8 coasters trying. I can burn okay on my Sony 510A burner - using the same kind of discs. I tried burning on the 800 with different discs and trying 4X instead of 8X, but no luck. Then I tried a test burn first and it was okay, then tried a real burn and it failed again. (The error says - module sfmmcx.ccp line 1795). Nero and Ulead burn just fine on my 800 deck. What's happened to Architect?

No solution here just a thought as several people seem to be running into problems burning discs with DVDA:

Sofar I've had no problems at all to burn dvd's with DVDA 3.0b
I use a NEC2500 dvd witer and only have Nero 6 as other burning software installed.

It seems some people have installed and used other burning software succesfully and later ran into trouble with DVDA although the combination DVDA and Nero seems to be working ok. Not sure what others will recommand but perhaps it's worth (if you have time) to remove 'other' burning software and see if this improves your situation.

some burning programs conflict with eachother (nero & roxio come to mind).

I've burn ~20 disks sucessfuly with DVDA3 & my Sony DRU710a, but I always burn the final product in Nero. It has more burning features, drive speed test, and I can add any extras to the DVD I want (when I use the extras features in DVDA3 it never gets past the prep stage: it tells me the file can't be written. Instead of fixing it I jsut went to nero. Easier & faster burnign anyway!)

I have had the exact same problem as this guy so I decided to take yalls advice and burn it in Nero. It says the same thing when i try to play it..."Disc Error: The playback feature may not be available for this disc.

How big is your project? One thing I noticed yesterday is that Nero doesn't pad projects less than 1GB in size to at least 1GB (and I've yet to find the option to change this), and some players won't play a DVD unless there's at least 1GB of data on it.

If you're under 1GB, try throwing a couple of extra files on the DVD in some other directory than AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS to bring it up to >1GB and see if that helps.

I tried burning a DVD (DVD+RW) that had well over a gig on it and I tried playing it in my dvd player but it said "Playback feature is not available on this disc." So it sounded like maybe that disc wasnt compatible for that dvd player so I tried 3 others. 2 of the dvd players said that there was no disc and the third one actually showed my video_ts and audio_ts folders. Am I having these problems because of the type of disc I am using. What is the best type of DVD to use?

-R media is generally 85-90% compatible, +R media is somewhat less if burnt with the +R booktype. My experience has been that +R with a DVD-ROM booktype is almost 100% compatible.

Re-writable media usually has lower compatibility with set-top players.

I burnt the DVD again this time with -R and had the same results...what to do?
ScottW wrote on 9/12/2005, 5:55 AM
Assuming the media was burned correctly (which you can test by seeing if your computer can read it), then you've got basically 2 options: purchase a newer set top player, and look for one that specifically claims support for -R or get a burner that supports changing the booktype and use Nero to burn the DVD with a booktype of DVD-ROM. You can find reviews of burners at www.cdrinfo.com in the optical storage section - each review will tell whether the burner supports changing the booktype or not (you want one that allows the change for both double layer as well as single layer media).

The other thing you should do is make sure you are using a high quality media. Buying the cheapest media you can find at the store is usually not the best approach. I personally prefer Taiyo Yuden.

When I go to Nero I have two options: 1: make data dvd. 2. make bootable dvd. which one?
ScottW wrote on 9/12/2005, 7:14 PM
Neither. Using the SmartStart interface you should get the option of burning video files to DVD (I don't remember the exact wording, but it's close to that - it's not on the first screen, you need to scroll the screen to see the option), then you simply drag your VIDEO_TS folder from your hard drive into the Nero project area and click burn.

I have burned hundreds of DVD-R discs using DVDA2 and DVDA3, and sometimes Nero6. Not one customer has returned a bad disc. Only twice have I had to replace the disc with a lower bit rate, and only one requesting VHS because the DVD wouldn't play on her CD player.

I use the cheapest DVD's that I can buy in bulk at Fry's and I never burn faster than 2X.

I don't argue with success.

well it doesnt work for me. I can put the dvd in my computer and play it, but it doesnt work on any of my dvd players, and I know that the dvd's are compatible because I used to burn dvd's in pinnacle all the time and watch them on my dvd players.

Oh and Scott, when I try to do the video file dvd in Nero theres only three format types you can use and I dont recognize any of them. There like .bop, .iv or .if and something else I dont remember
