I can't import more than two video clips in Sony Vegas Studio Platinum

Steve-Marsh3386 wrote on 8/12/2025, 9:12 AM

Hi.

I'm just trying to use Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 again after a long time of not using it.

It only lets me import two video clips, then this error report box comes up, then vegas shuts down.

I know this is a fairly old programme, but surely it should still work ok?

I recently had to re-install this from disc on a new Win 11 machine

This is not so slowly driving me crazy. All I'm trying to do is very basic editing of several videos into one, with very simple transforms, and one video split/repeat/ enlarge, and to add a very simple title.

I've been at this for several days now, first trying to use Adobe Rush -- which is in my paid photography plan, but apparently doesn't allow me to save anything unless I upgrade!!

Please, any help/suggestions/whatever very gratefully recieved.

Cheers.

Steve.

@Steve-Marsh3386 Hi, your image doesn't show the full info of the media you're using?

If this is recent footage that you're using it could well be MP4 HEVC, this is a newer version of MP4 AVC, your VMS 10 won't be compatible with MP4 HEVC, you'll need to upgrade Vegas or convert your footage to MP4 AVC.

Of course it could be something else but more info on your video media would be helpful -

There's an App called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, drag the edges of the window that pops up so it shows all the information & screen capture that page, post that image on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

Or Copy & paste the information in a new comment like this -

PS..Your project is 29.97i & your footage is 120fps.. ?

Thanks Gid.

I have now had an answer from support and they are saying, as you are, that my version doesn't work with Win 11.

However, I may try to convert the video clips to AVC and try that first. Have you got any suggestions for free (or very cheap)software to do that?

I really don't want to have to pay out too much as I do very very little video editing.

Cheers.

Steve.

Also, as I said, I do very little editing, so do you have any experience with Video Deluxe 2026?

I only ever need something fairly simple, and just can't go to the price of the full vegas.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.

@Steve-Marsh3386 Hi, ok, try Shutter Encoder. https://www.shutterencoder.com/ It's free & fairly simple, choose H264 from the drop-down & export (Start Function), H264 is MP4 AVC, H265 is MP4 HEVC,

I have loads of experience with Video Deluxe but that has it's own forum so try to convert your files & see how that goes,

Hi again.

I've got a convertor now, but it looks like my videos are only in MP4 anyway, not HEVC MP4, so a new programe it is😞.

Have you got a link to Video Deluxe forum by any chance? or know where it is? I can't seem to find one.

Sorry to be a pain.

Cheers.

@Steve-Marsh3386 So your files are already MP4 AVC?

Have you got a link to Video Deluxe forum by any chance? or know where it is? I can't seem to find one.

This is the Video Deluxe forum https://www.magix.info/us/video-forum/, I must point out that Video Deluxe is not an upgrade from Sony Vegas Movie Studio & has never been related. It is a good but basic editor so there will be things missing or differences to what you have in Vegas /Movie Studio & there will be a learning curve, but if all you want to do is basic editing it should suffice. -

Despite them never being related If you go to the website choose the 'Upgrade' option you may get the cheaper price.

Click Buy Now to go to the next screen, you can do this without having to pay anything, on there you'll find out if the 'Upgrade' price is available. You can then continue or back out.

Download the Trial first to see if it suites you, the Trial is just the main basic 'Plus' program that both the other two options are built on, the only difference with Plus, Premium & Ultimate are that the latter two have extras included, whether you'll want or need these extras is up to you so Plus maybe all you need, at the top of the page there is a Comparison where you can see the difference between Plus, Premium & Ultimate.

If you do download the Trial & wish to ask questions you'll need to do that on the Video Deluxe forum.

--------

PS, there are free editors like DaVinci Resolve, this has a bigger learning curve but it's free.

@Steve-Marsh3386 In your first post you don't show the crash report details. Can you repeat the crash then tick the "Show problem details" and post what it says here.

From your images and what you've told us your source material is 1080 AVC so I wouldn't expect VMS Platinum 10 to be unable to use it. Also if your VMSP10 worked on Win 10 I'd expect it to work on Win11. One potential problem though is that a fresh install of Win11 won't have an AC3 decoder but VMSP10 was probably using Dolby AC3 decoder so shouldn't be a problem. Your AVC files are unlikely to be using AC3 anyway as normally they record AAC audio.

I've just noticed your clip details show a frame rate of 120fps! Is there a reason for this high framerate. Possibly this could be a problem for your old software.

Thanks for all that both of you, really helpful and informative.

I've installed a couple of free trials , and Davinci Resolve, just got to find the time to have fiddle around with them now and see whats what.

Cheers.

Just in case you don't know, you can try running in Windows compatability mode where Win11 acts like an earlier version of Windows for running a specific program. https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+compatibility+mode+windows+11&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS1173US1173&oq=windows+compatability+mode&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCQgCEAAYChiABDIGCAAQRRg5MgkIARAAGAoYgAQyCQgCEAAYChiABDIJCAMQABgKGIAEMgkIBBAAGAoYgAQyCQgFEAAYChiABDIJCAYQABgKGIAEMggIBxAAGBYYHjIICAgQABgWGB4yCAgJEAAYFhge0gEJMTMzMTFqMGo3qAIIsAIB&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

I didn't know that, it may very well be useful for some other older software too.

Cheers.😊
