I don't understand. This is weird!

VV3.0a. As a time saver I "pre-made" a bunch of empty .veg files last week for a location recording I'm doing this week (you know, setting storage directory structure, record inputs, etc.). Now I'm very glad I did because I am unable to record to newly created files now. I can record to the files I created last week; I can modify, Save As (rename), and use one of these files to start a new project file BUT if I start from scratch with a new file Vegas crashes instantly when I hit the record button.

Between last week and this week I upgraded the BIOS on my PC but that's about all that's changed. Any ideas, anyone? Everything else works OK as far as I can tell.

Found the problem: preferences accidentally got set for wrong playback sound card. Since the recordings are 24-bit and the old sound card is 16-bit things, apparently, crashed because of the mismatch.
