I found a jewel of an app

This takes an avi or mpg and somehow renders it on the fly and out to the ieee so that you can watch it on your external monitor. Seems to work well on my old 1.4 TBird.

"If You wish to watch your movies (DivX, mpeg, etc.) on TV, but You don't have TV-out, You can do it if You have miniDV camera or MiroVideoDC30+ card.
Just make connection PC(1394) -- miniDVcamera -- TV or MiroVideoDC30 -- TV and watch any Your movies on TV."

I like the idea of the tool, but it didn't seem to work correctly on my system. The video played slower than the audio. I'm trying to playback MPEG2 videos I created in VV4. Any ideas?

I would be curious to know what speed your machine is? How much ram?

I have a Dell 4300 (P4 1.6Ghz) with 512MB SDRAM (PC133). There are WD 7200 hard drives installed. I'm running Windows XP Pro with all updates from Microsoft including SP1.

What is the sample rate on your avi? IEEE video expects 48k audio I believe.
