kkrawal wrote on 10/11/2009, 10:34 AM
Hi
I am using Vegas Movie Studio 6. First time I faced a funny prolem. I taken a vedio with my Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera and got the movie at my desktop. I wanted to edit the movie with Vegas Movie Studio 6 to remove some uncessary starting and ending so the movie will be compat and put some Text on the movie. The Movie size is about 222 mb. When I added this movie in Vegas Studio, It did not show, only the sound track was shwoing. But I can play the movie using Media Player, Quck Time.
What to do?
Just now I don't want to upgrade the software.

Hi,
You "should" be posting in the Movie Studio forum. But since you are here, I will try to answer your question.

Did you recently upgrade your Quicktime and iTunes? If so, you need to roll back to Quicktime 7.6.2 and iTunes 8. There is a thread about it in this forum -- do a search.

You didn't say which Nikon Coolpix you are using, there are many. You may need to download an additional codec. Best advice is to download the freeware MediaInfo, see what it says about your video files, and post the information in the Movie Studio forum.

I still haven't been able to find Quicktime 7.6.2 anywhere. Does anyone have a link?

"Download doesn't provide access to previous versions of this program."

Any other links?

For File Hippo, be sure to click on one of the "old versions" links.

Here are the older versions of QT directly from the horse's mouth.

Sounds safer than third party sites that may have poisoned the downloads with malware.

The Apple link goes back to 7.6 but leaves out the 7.6.2 version.

So Laurence, download QuickTime Player 7.62.14.0 from File Hippo. And Bjørn, File Hippo does not poison the downloads with malware! Never.

Looks like Apple has taken 7.6.2 off its download site. Kind of telegraphs their intentions toward us, doesn't it? It was there a few days ago.

7.6 works fine, I've had it on my system since it was released.

The differences in 7.6.2 do not affect performance or function, so I never installed it.

EDIT: Here is a link to the Windows Quicktime 7.6.2 installer:

Here it is again: http://www.oldapps.com/quicktime_player.php?old_quicktime=24

Here is a link to the iTunes 8.2 installer:

Apple has taken 7.6.2 off its download site

Maybe there was a security issue in 7.6.2?

Jöran, thanks for the reco on File Hippo, I just didn't know the site.

When I import this file ( media ) into Sony Vega Movie studio, only Audio track is shown, no video. Please help.

OK, here is what you need to do next.

Download the freeware MediaInfo.
Post what it says about your coolpix files.
I'm pretty sure I know which codec you will need to download, but I want to be sure.

OK, here's your solution:
http://www.mainconcept.com/site/prosumer-products-4/motion-jpeg-codec-785/demo-version-789.html

No need to purchase, just install the demo version and it will open your files.
(Tried it on my computer and it works.)

Thanks as always, to johnmeyer for pointing us to this easy solution.

With your guidance, Now the movie is coming the track, but the biggest problem is that the quality is badly destorted as well as the size is much much bigger then the origianl size. Please download the above linked clip of 16-17 mb and try on it. Just render as Mov or avi and see how the quality gets bad and size multiply. Please help.

When I render a clip of about 149 mb, it creates more then 500 MB AVI with very bad quality.

Laurence wrote on 10/12/2009, 11:06 AM
I downloaded your clip and it came up right away. The codec my system used was the excellent http://www.accusoft.com/pvmjpegpricing.htmPegasus Mjpeg Codec[/link]. You have to buy it but it is a wonderful codec and well worth the money (use the "special offer for home use only"). You can download the trial version just to be sure and then only register it if it works (which it will).

If you don't want to buy this codec, there are other mjpeg codecs out there. You need one with both directshow and vfw engines. The problem you are running into is that you are using an mjpeg codec that is directshow only. Now that I see the clip I am absolutely sure of this.
musicvid10 wrote on 10/12/2009, 11:15 AM
Would you please look at your render settings? Your file size (500MB) indicates you used the default AVI template, which is uncompressed and not the same size as your media. I opened your video in the in Platinum trial, set the Project to match the Media, and rendered a 640x480 file using several encoders with no surprises either in the size or quality whatsoever. These settings are things you must set manually. Why don't you jump over to the Movie Studio forum, and we'll help you with your render settings there. That is because the templates and settings in Movie Studio are not the same as in Vegas Pro.
Laurence wrote on 10/12/2009, 11:57 AM
Also, I just wanted to mention that an advantage of the efficiency of the Pegasus mjpeg codec is that you can easily edit with your footage in mjpeg form at full frame rate. In fact, I've converted other video formats into this format to edit before because it is so CPU efficient. With a less efficient mjpec codec you are likely to be looking at rerendering it into some sort of intermediary which loses some quality, takes time and disc space.

BUYING SEPARATE CODEC?
THEN WHAT IS VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO FOR?
The only idea is that the VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO is not able to do the work?
Ok finally I will decide to upload original clip.
When I was trying to purchase Vegas Movie Studio, there were lots of other softwares, but I decided to purchase Vegas Movie Studio, because I was thinking that this is the best software available and in the future I will need not to purchase any supporig software.

kkrawai,
Laurence is a professional. His advice is great in the context of professional videographers who use professional products to get professional results. The professionals in this forum often spend thousands on their software, tens of thousands on their hardware, and many of them make their livings by doing this. Kindly forgive them for offering their perspective; it was you who chose to carry on your thread here.

With no disrespect, we got your file open.
Again, for the third time, head over to the Movie Studio forum for basic instruction on Project and Render template settings for your version of the software, which are different than in the Pro version. I'll be glad to help you with those essential settings. Either that or consult the Help files in your Vegas Movie Studio software, which are very thorough and comprehensive.
