i do not want to spread my Workspace , but preview Video on an External monitor wich is in my case a 15inch LCD screen i have had in stock for some time and thought of using it for Vegas , i dont even know if its Digital or analoge but i guess as long as it has VGA input then its analog . anyways i have 2xDVI on my VideoCard , how would i use this LCD as an external monitor?

Get a DVI to analogue adaptor, just a double ended plug thingy and then use the external monitor function within Vegas. That's not the same as preview over 1394 though.

farss , thanks for the input , well i have that adapter , but my guess is that DVI is digital and VGA is analog , there for i need a converter , i can use my cams passthrough , but again , i cant plug the cam to the VGA input on the LCD.

you should not need a converter as the adapter (VGA monitor to DVI graphics card) takes care of the signal change, hence the name converter. Plug it up and give it a try. I used one for a while with my video card when I had one dvi monitor and one vga monitor. No problems for me.

i have two monitors here with VGA inputs, none worked using the Vid card DVI output and a DVI cable with an adaptor on the other end to the VGA input on the LCD ..!

Try buying a cheapo video card (meaning an older good one) that matches what you already have in your system brand wise (nVidia or ATI) and install it- make sure it is pci and has a support for VGA...

or

Get another AGP video card that has 1 dvi and 1vga and install it. You should be able to find one relatively cheap on www.tigerdirect.com and they ship fast (I get all my items in 2-3 days with regular shipping).

Option 2 would be a whole lot more stable than option 1 above.

The DVI connector can carry both digital (DVI) and analogue (VGA) signals. The adaptor just connects the analogue signals to the corresponding terminals of a VGA socket so you can connect up a VGA monitor.

However, it is possible that some DVI connectors do not provide the VGA signals at all, so an adaptor will not work with these connectors.

Have you right clicked on your desktop, clicked properties, gone to the settings tab and checked the "extend my desktop" box?

If you haven't you won't be able to see anything on there because windows won't know that the space exists.

Basic I know, but it may be of use.

Here's the problemo!
Most DVI ports on the graphics cards have both analogue and digital signals on different pins.
DVI cables come in THREE flavours, a) analogue, b) digital and c) all of the above!

So what you've done is run a DVI cable to the monitor and put the adaptor there.
WRONG, BAD BOY.
Put the DVI to VGA adaptor on the graphics card and run an analogue VGA cable to the monitor and all should be sweet. I'm usning just that config at the moment. Most likely you've got a DVI-D cable which means only the digital, not the analogue pins are connected.
