I'm Having Trouble Rendering 5.1 audio in DVDA 6.0

I'm trying to render a 1080p file authored in Vegas 12.0 (726 build). The video with stereo audio file plays fine. But when I replaced it with the 5.1 ac-3 file, it showed up as a 5.1 file DOWNMIXED TO STEREO (????). That was NOT how the settings were in Vegas 12 during rrendering. I thought I was keeping it simple by rendering ONE 5.1 track (ac-3 5.1). But as I'm getting absolutely no sound from the file, does that mean that I have to import multiple audio tracks in DVDA?

The manual is not really offering a lot of help. Could someone here step me through this?

Thanks

What do you mean by "when I replaced it with the 5.1 ac-3 file"?

Where did this AC3 file come from and where and how did you use it to "replace" another video's audio?

Also, have you ensured that your DVD Architect's project properties are set up for 5.1 audio?

You have to start with a 5.1 vegas project.
5.1 in dvda will show up as stereo on the preview.
If you still have problems try dvda 5 or 5.2

Steve, the original soundtrack was a stereo file, that I imported into Nuendo and Upmixed into a 5.1 surround file. I then imported that back into Vegas, which saw this as 3 stereo files (Front L- R), (CTR - FE) and (Rear L - R). I told Vegas to render this as a single 5.1 ac-3 pro file for DVD. But when I replaced the stereo file in DVDA 6.0, the properties showed as a single 5.1 file downmixed back to stereo AND gave no output at that.

So, how do I get it to STAY 5.1 ac-3?

musicvid10, I did start with a 5.1 Vegas file. All of my audio propeties were set for 5.1 both in the project and during the rendering process. Did I miss a step somewhere?

I don't think replacing the audio in a DVDA stereo project changes it to 5.1.
I think you would need to delete the stereo audio track from the DVDA project, change the DVDA audio properties to 5.1, then add your 5.1 AC3 track.

Nevertheless, unless you are doing full-rez 3D, I recommend DVDA 5.0 or 5.2 instead.
Even in a 5.1 DVDA project, the audio will still preview in stereo.
Oh, and be sure to use the Dolby Pro encoder in Vegas, not Dolby Studio.
Hope it works out.

Hi,
I wanted to go from DVD S5 to DVDA Pro 6 in order to burn BR disc in Dolby 5.1 from Movie studio platinum 12. I ask the question to SONY which answers in two days
They confirm what is already said in these forums :
DVDA studio cannot burn BR in 5.1
You can burn BR in 5.1 directly from Movie studio 12 if you burn without menus.
If you want to burn BR with menus (my case) the only way is DVDA Pro 6. But you cannot access directly DVD A Pro from MSP12, as MSP12 will call DVDStudio. You then have to render your projects before. Here is what Sony suggest (sorry it is my English translation form French :
To burn your disc, you must render your project as MainConcept MPEG-2, Flux video Blu-ray Disc (for video) and Dolby Digital AC-3 (for sound). Under the condition the two files have the same name and are place in the same folder, DVD Architect will find them as two parties of the same file.

Hope this helps
Bruno

Thanks for posting that. Have you got it to work? I ask because I was under the impression that only the AC-3 Pro codec in Vegas Pro would produce compatible output for 5.1 audio in DVDA.

Hi,
No, I am late in my personal editing ans still working on Stereo project with DVD Studio 5.
But my question was quite precise and I only translate the bit that was for DVDA Pro6. So unless Sony guys are out of their mind, this should work. But as soon as I get Pro 6, I will make a try with a small 5.1 recorded video and let you know.
Regards,
Bruno

Any updates on this? I am having no luck at all with getting a decent 5.1 sound from DVDA 6. Depending on the render from Vegas Pro 12, I either get silence, stereo, distorted surround or a high pitched shriek.

If I cut Blu rays directly from vegas they sound and look great but I need menus this have to use DVDA :-(

Surely someone has perfected a process for this?
