What is the source video? If it is MPEG... I have seen times when the preview becomes "sluggish" when you move around the timeline.

Does this happen on just this project.. or all projects?

Where (physically) is the source video stored. Is it on an external hard drive? On a drive that needs to be de-fragged?

Other thing is... (and this may seem obvious).. have you tried re-starting Vegas and/or re-starting your PC. I have seen situations where things just need to be re-set to get things back to normal (doesn't happen often... but worth a try I think)

no no the vid is fine

its just that when i click on the place i want to see the beginning of the vid, i see the end of the vid on another track beside it. not the beginning of the vid on the right side.

In that case... I must admit to being unable to understand what you are saying is happening here. Please try to describe the problem in a little more clarity... or maybe someone else on the forum will be able to figure out what you are trying to say is happening.

Sorry.

First of all, rotate your monitor 90 degrees clockwise. The track layout is up/down not right/left, so if you really are seeing tracks layed out right/left your monitor must be on it's side and based on your description, you should rotate things clockwise. ;-)

Now that we have the monitor correctly oriented, what you are seeing is normal. If you simply take 2 video clips and put them each on seperate tracks (one video above the other), the clip on the top track will show and you won't see any of the tracks below it - unless you change the compositing mode of the tracks.

My suggestion would be to read the Vegas manual (it does discuss compositing) or get one of the excellent books available on Vegas - Spot's book for example has an excellent discussion on compositing.

Alternatively, it could be that you don't want to do anything with compositing, in which case you should move the clip on the lower track to the upper track or at least out from under the upper clip.
