I'm trying to install an old product (DVD Architect Studio 5.0)

I'm trying to install an old product (DVD Architect Studio 5.0) to a new computer. It crashes whenever I try to register it. Is there any way to bypass the registration process?

I downloaded the installation program from https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/

I opened and installed the .exe file

When I clicked on the program, they asked me to register the software. I click Next, and it instantly crashes.

When I click on the program again, it just crashes immediately.

Edit: It's been a few months and I tried to install it again... and it worked. The registration process actually worked properly. I have no idea what I did differently, but whatever.

No, you cannot skip the registration process.

You have not gtiven any information about your computer's specifications or which version of Windows that you are using, but suffice to say the further away one gets from the technology of the time of a particular program, the greater the chances of problems.

One possibility is that .NET Framework 3.5 is not fully installed/activated especially if you have a recent model computer; so try this (based on Windows 10):

  • Go to Apps and Features
  • Click on Programs and Features (top RH corner under the Related Settings heading
  • In the window that opens, select 'Turn Windows features on or off' (top LH corner)
  • In the window that opens, the first checkbox should be '.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)'
  • Click on the twistee for the above entry and check both checkboxes for the 2 sub-entries
  • Windows should then ask if you want to install .NET Framework. After it installs, the computer will need to be restarted.

I had to do this to get DVD Architect 6.0 to install on my current recent model computer, but the difference is that I had tio do the above before DVDA6 would even install in the first place. At the time (about 6 months ago) there were no problems with registering DVDA6.

You will probably need to lodge a support request with MAGIX via: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/form/?title

I've tried and retried to install .Net Framework 3.5 in the way you suggested, but the program still crashes. I noticed that .Net Framework 4.5 is in my list of programs in "Add and Remove Programs" but 3.5 isn't and no matter what I do to install it, it doesn't seem to appear.

Drat ... it's reverted to an earlier page.

Click on Download / Installation; then click on the Search for other Solutions button; then in the Find field type in anything at all and then hit the Find a Solution button; and then towards the bottom of the page that opens, hit the Send a Support Request button which then gives you the support request form.

Re .NET Framework 3.5 not being there - that is curious. I've got the same version and build of Windows 10 as you have yet I get this:

It was listed there as part of the Windows 10 installation and all I had to do was check the checkboxes and Windows and the computer did the rest.

The following appears to be a genuine Microsoft webpage about installing 3.5. but you might want to check its authenticity before installing anything from it: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/dotnet-35-windows

I get the option in the Windows Features box, but I don’t see the .Net Framework 3.5 in the “add and remove programs” section, even though I see 4.5. Is that normal? Should I see 3.5 in “add and remove programs” or does that mean I do not have it installed?

Just to make sure that the correct windows are being accessed, in the Apps & Features window ...

... the Programs and Features link (as arrowed above) is clicked on. That opens ...

Then the Turn Windows Features On and Off (as arrowed above) is selected, which results in ...
