I'm using Vegas Pro 8, please don't laugh...code

I'm having trouble getting Vegas 8 to recognize Mp3, Avi, Mov. wmv, and that about covers it.

I found some free looping background video and all my players, ie, quicktime, realplayer, windown movie player etc, all play the video.

But I get what I believe are codex error messages upon importation, although some of the files import, but are blank with no video and others crash vegas?

Normally I can import a download from youtube with no trouble. Have Codecs changed recently?

Any suggestions?

Joe

Can you open one of the troublesome files in MediaInfo or G Spot and identify its codec, resolution and frame rate?

Are you saying that these video files were ripped from YouTube? Depending on the software you used, the files may be composed of any of dozens of possible codecs.

One of the challenges with using older software, like Vegas 8, which is 4 years old, is that some of these newer, non-standard codecs may not be supported by the program.

With Pro 8, you must have Quicktime version 7.6 or 7.6.2 installed.
Newer versions of Quicktime will not work, not even 7.6.4.

Don't feel badly about using V8. Many of us here use the older versions of Vegas, since very few "improvements" have come with later versions and for some reason the newer versions seem tender on some computer systems.

I'm perfectly happy with V9 and have no plans to change.
