I need a professional, solid Vegas resource!!

Have you ever noticed that Vegas is a very intuitive program that can do almost all that other NLE's can do? Of course you have. Have you ever noticed that the manual never tells you more than simply how to set up a new program and how to change custom colors, but doesn't explain any of the slick effects and how and when to use them?

I need a good resource that tells me when to use the "Computer to Studio" color corrector, when to use the secondary color corrector instead of the primary, to explain what REC 709 is, what exactly IRE 7.5 and when to use agressive IRE 7.5 effect. I need a resource that tell me exactly HOW to read the Video scopes, what limits are acceptable for broadcast, and what exactly are broadcast standards for audio levels and colors.

This program can do A LOT, but doesn't give you any information on how to use much of it.

Is there a good solid resource that explains a lot of these issues for Vegas, either a training DVD or a book?

Much of what you're asking for isn't specific to Vegas. Rec 709, IRE 7.5 setup etc, etc are all part and parcel of the world of general video so you probably need to consider looking wider than just something specifically Vegas. There's plenty of good Vegas training material around but the problem is like learning anything really new your first hurdle is getting around the jargon. Some of what you're asking about is covered quite well for free on Wikipaedia or just try a Google.

Bob, you are rigt, I know that a lot of my questions are outside of the scope of Vegas training. I guess the point I was trying to make is that the program is capable of quite a bit that I am not confident in their uses. Things such as the new titler, reading the scopes, and color/audio manipulation for broadcast. I have been editing for years but have never had to be conscious of broadcast standards because none of my work entailed that. That is all about to change. I would first prefer a great Vegas resource, but would love any general video resources as well if anyone has a good recommendation. Thanks.

I think CMP publishes a few very good books including one on color correction for digital video.

CMP is out of business. They were acquired by Focal Press. However, Steve Hullfish' book is indeed available from Focal.

Ah. You saved me from getting up to look in the bookshelf.

Your books are also a good choice, of course. And I liked one of Jay Rose's books on audio... There's actually quite a bit of decent info out there.
