I need help on some very grainy dark footage here.

I have footage that was shot at a wedding recption that a light was not allowed and had to use the gain on the canon gl1 to help get anything out of this.
What should I be using to bring out the light and remove (if poss) the grain.
I have been trying some of the tutorials but nothing is there yet.
If someone wishes to have a crack at a sample I will send ya one.
Any help would be great on this.
Thanx everyone.
David

I'd dance and chant the mystic dance of de-graining. It is a traditional NLE dance performed at dusk wearing a cerimonial baseball cap of one's favorite hockey team and sung with the bassest of basses that a baratone can generate.

Do this once or twice around the room and all your worries will be solved.

Median filter can help a lot. Your render times will be very long.
Alternatively gaussion blur is faste to render but not as accurate.

Either way all you can echieve is to make the noise less apparent by averaging out pixels.
For what it is this maybe quite acceptable.

Also play around a little with the color curve, pushing the blacks down a little tends to hide a lot of the noise as it's most apparent in the blacks.

I'd use the virtual dub smart smoother filter.

Thanx for the help guys and I think for some of the other not so helpful comments. ; ) You'll have that I guess. It is friday after all.
It was a nightmare to do this job. It was a last minute day after thanksgiving job and did not meet the bride and groom till the actual day of shooting. No clue on any of the specifics as far as lighting yeahs and nos. It was a hell of a challenge. We had to gain the camera just to get anything out of this reception and ceremony and then pray for an NLE savior. Sorry but the dance of the NLE fairies didn't work either. They tried their booties off and then just........well...collapsed on the floor. ; )
I appreciate any help and the help that has come forth now.
Remind me not to do the dance of darkness just because you need money.LOL

What is the virtual dub smart smoother?

I found it. Only prob is I cannot get any avis into it without an error message saying it does not understand the dvsd file. Hmmm...
Median seems to do very little really. I assume you use the offset slider to make the adjustments?
