I really would like a timed capture

I am capturing from 8mm camcorder to disk. The tape in the camcorder is 2hrs. long. Is there any way I can set it up so the capture only runs 2hrs and then stops? All competing products allow me to do this. I have not figured out how to this in MS 3.0. I can't believe that it won't let you do it. I'd like to start the capture and let it go without having to be sure to be back in 2hrs or else it'll eat up all my disk space...

I don't have the VidCap that comes with Movie Studio; i only have the one that comes with Vegas. However, in Vegas' VidCap there's a field under Options / Preferences / Capture that lets you specify a maximum capture time. It might be there in Movie Studio's version too.

Thanks.. but before I buy the software I'd like to know from someone who has it if I'll be able to do a timed capture. So far it seems to be pretty good, but I really need a timed capture... I like to start the capture at night but I don't want it to eat up every last byte of disk space I have....

Did you check the Options / Preferences / Capture tab? If it's listed there, even in the trial version, then you've got it. If it's not listed there then even the full version doesn't have it.

I have a registered copy of Screenblast 3.0a and just checked for the setting. There is a Minimum clip length in seconds setting, but I did not see anything for stopping the capture after a specified period of time.

It would be a shame to pass over Screenblast for such a small thing. VirtualDub is a free product that I use for my capture needs and it does allow you to specify 4 different Stop conditions:
1) Capture time exceeds ? seconds
2) File size exceeds ? megabytes
3) Free disk space drops below ? megabytes
4) Dropped frame ration exceeds ? percent

The source code is also available for VirtualDub through the GNU License. I have downloaded and compiled the source with no problems. I am now hoping to break out the Capture portion of VirutalDub and integrate it into my version of SB.

In SB, you can specify which Capture program you would like to use. I will just change SB to point to my capture program instead of SBVidCap30.
