I've decided to returne the Pinnacle board, Which way to go now ?

The studio deluxe turned to be a real pained in the ass.
So I'll return it ASAP.
Can't do anything with the analog output in VV3 and I must say
that even Studio 7 does not work the way it suppose to with the card (very unstable).
Now there are two routes I'm considering.
Since I'm using analog sources at this time,I need to convert it to digital (DV only don't want Mpeg crap...).
Then while editing and after rendering the movie,I want to output to VCR (again I will need analog output that VV3 can handle).
After making the analog tape I will render to (VCD/SVCD) and create a digital copy.
(I can do this now with the Pinnacle but the analog tape is very important to me right now).
There is a solution from Canopus called ADVC-100 which is an external analog/digital
converter that connect to a standard pc IEEE1394,
So I guess VV3 won't have problem to external my project to the canopus device.
The VV3 will have to work with the IEEE1394 that's all.
No drivers no crazy installations no third party SW, looks very neat ...
The other way is the ATI Radeon 8500DV here I'm not so sure VV3 will detect the card
an it's analog outputs. Any of you works with the 8500DV ?
Any suggestions here ?
Thanks in advance
Lior

Don't use it myself but most people here & Sonic seem to advocate a simple generic Firewire card & ADVC-100 as the way to go.
Just do a search on ADVC-100 & you'll see.

I use a firewire card that came with Pinnacle Studio 7 & use Windows drivers for it without problem in conjunction with VV3.

VV3 does have problems with some firewire cards but it is dependant which chipset is on the card. Can't remember which ones have the problems.

I did see a post recently from SonicDennis suggesting people use Pyro firewire card & ADVC-100. Just keep it as suggested simple generic Firewire with Windows drivers.

Hope this helps

Although I recommend the Canopus ADVC-100, I never metioned the Pyro card, it must have been someone else. However, the Pyro card is just fine, as it any other OHCI compilant IEEE-1394 (Firewire) interface. They are $70-$100, the ADVC-100 is $289 at http://www.canopus.com/sonicfoundry.htm

Sorry Dennis misquoted you.
It was SonicEPM

actually they are more like $35 to $70 (inc. shipping) now-a-days and some even come with a cable and software.

this is the one that comes with the Sonic Foundry BOXX system. I would assume it's been tested for compatibility.

1394 Adapter: $35
1394 (Firewire) Adapter: 3-Port IEEE 1394 PCI (SiiG Model# NN-300012)

Actually, they're more like $20-25. Go to pricewatch.com, clk under controller cards on the I/O category, and take your pick. I've purchased half a dozen at these prices, including cable, and never had a problem. Get yourself a Sony Digital 8 or mini dv camera w/ analog to digital pass thru, (MAKE SURE IT HAS THIS FEATURE, NOT ALL MODELS DO), and save yourself the expense of an unnecessary extra piece of hardware. Unless you're in a situation where you'll be having to plug and unplug connections to your camcorder frequently, there's no qualitative advantage to be gained from having a stand alone converter..BTW, re: the Sony recomendation, sony's are known to be the most compatible insofar as machine control from your NLE interface goes. Some other brands and models work well too, but you'll have to do your own research to find out which ones. Some cause lots of problems, do your own research..
