I've got a messy lower frame edge!

Okay, using my analogue cammy I get about 4 to 6 lines at the bottom of the frame which are messy. This is okay-ish when I'm using full frame and PTT removes them - they are obviously out of frame by then, and they go away.

Okay.... Now, when I use Pan/Crop, and have the "action" clip move into say the top left corner of the Frame, these little blighters can be seen again. I know why it is happenning - but my question is this. Can I apply a "mask" - say a black rectangle with its inner portion being transparent - over the clip so it creates an artificial "frame" around the clip, thereby removing these artefacts? However, I feel the mask would only stay still and not move with the clip, which would be retreating to the top left hand corner. Or do I have to try PiP [Picture In Picture] instead of Pan/Crop? Ughhh!

I do realise that this could be happenning becasue I'm capturing from an analogue, and it aint clinical DV. Could I capture at say something less than the PAL recipe[720X576] to attempt to obliterate the artefacts?

I've got a really neat sequence which includes these moves, and would truly like to clear up this messy bits.

Other than forking out on a new DV cammy [I WILL be doing this, soon - I'm looking at the Canon GL2(US) - XM2(UK)] and ridding myself of this effect, can you think of something? Other than my ideas/suggestions, is there an easier solution I'm missing?

C'mon the A-Team! Help....

Regards

Grazie

I know it's a bit of a long-winded way to do things, but you could pre-process your raw video to crop it, output as avi and then use that to re-input & pan/crop/zoom etc.

Or you could get a DV cam!!

Mike - you offering? Canon DV XM2 now ONLY £1599.00 inc vat! Christmas is coming, and I've been a very, very good boy this year - honest!

Yeah thought 'bout that - the pre-screening thingy as well. But, as they say, "Necessity" being a real MOTHER of wots its - I created a very simple PiP mask and "shotgunned" the sequences in question. A quick Splat of that and I trimmed off the hairy bits. Took 'bout 10 mins to finish the job.

Cheers though,
