Idea: Logging a tape from disk instead of from camera using Video Capture!?

I don't like to use the camera to log tapes/find the clips I want.
For now I just dump the tape to disk and use regions in Trimmer to
select the clips I might use.

An idea for SOFO:
In Video Capture you can log tapes, setting in and outs and then capture.
The result is a file for each in-out.

What if we could do the same in Video Capture, with files!
Dump a tape first to disk as one big file,
then log it (in Video Capture!) and
then Batch Capture!

U get it?

Yes it would be great !

I think that the only flaw point of Vegas is the ability to organize a great deal of clips / tapes. It would be great to set in / out points an obtain a new clip (file). It don't like regions, I don't like to use the timeline as a bin, and I don't like to use the camcorder as a VTR for logging but I do like Vegas. If Vegas had the powerful organizing tools that Avid has would be absolutely great.

Anyway, bin folders is the first step. Let's see what happens in future versions.

Greets.

I just tried one solution:
- Captured a couple of tapes, on file pr tape
- dragged the files(tapes) into the timeline
- enabled Auto-ripple
- use S (split) to cut the files into the events I might use, deleted the rest
- the result is a lot of events in the timeline
- File-Save as> to a new folder and enabled "Copy and trim..",
set "Head and Tail" to 0 sec

The result it a lot of useful files which I now can
import into bins, and sort them and rename as i choose.

It works, but I think logging files in Video Capture
would be better because you can name the files for
each in-out.
