If i upgrade from 2.0a to 2.0b (mpeg ?)

If I upgrade from 2.0a to 2.0b will I lose mpeg2? Or will my currently registered lingos still work? Or will I have to get a new serial number for lingos BEFORE I install 2.0b?

So many question. What is the correct upgrade path going from 2.0a to 2.0b with the new mpeg component if I want to keep mpeg-2 without having to buy yet another piece of software?

From what i've read about the 2.0b upgrade, the only way to get MPEG2
is to buy the additional encoder. There doesn't appear to be any way to
re-register the Ligos encoder. Sonic Foundry doesn't license it any more.

No you won't lose anything by upgrading. You'll keep your already registered Ligos encoders and you'll gain the Mainconcept Mpeg1 encoder.

thats not true, you will have to pay the $$$ for any MPEG 2 encoder except the MPEG 1 one.
I downloaded the 2.0b version earlier this week and had to do just that

See the VF2 Readme for the lowdown on the MPEG encoder.

Basically the deal is:

If you previously registered the Ligos encoder (i.e., before Nov 2000), contact SF tech support for an new activation code.

If you never registered the Ligos encoder, you are SOL and must buy the MainConcept MPEG-2 encoder (which many people say is better anyway).

When I upgraded, my ligos mpeg encoders still remain accessible, both mpeg1 and 2. I think if you do a clean install or reinstall, then you will have to reregister the Ligos, and in this case you will need to contact Support for a new registration number.

I now have Mainconcept MPEG1 and Ligos MPEG1 and 2 as options for MPEG encoding. I just ran the upgrade over the original version.

If fact, I uninstalled 2.0a and completely removed the remaining Sonic Foundry directories before installing 2.0b and I *still* have the Ligos encoders available. Which means that the Ligos dlls are still included in the 2.0b distribution and the registration information is probably stored in the registry.
