If I upgrade from Vegas 16 to 17, could I lose my current project?

So I have been working on a documentary for the last 6 months, and I am interested in downloading Vegas 17 because the playback on 16 is lagging A TON. How will it work if I upgrade to 17? Will my project stay EXACTLY the same? Is there any possibility that I could lose my project? I'm paranoid! Thanks guys!!!!

Make a copy of your project file, call it something like "My project vegas 17 version". This is because once you save it in 17, it can no longer be opened by 16. You can open a project in 17 and it won't break compatibility with 16, but once you click save, it's 17 from then on. Once you have your backup, download the demo and open it up, make sure it all works ok and suits your needs, then buy!

If your old projects uses BORIX FX, they will not load as V17 does not seem to like old versions so does not detect them

A clarification - from my POV anyway - in relation to harry-worth's post: if you have a Boris FX package bundled with a previous version of Vegas Pro, then those Boris FX plugins are unlikely to work in VP17, as is the case with most other bundles from other 3rd party companies packaged with a previous version of VP. However, if your only Boris FX plugins are the latest BCC, Mocha Pro or Sapphire OFX products as usually bought directly from Boris FX, then they should work in VP17 as they do for me in VP17 (though I don't have Sapphire). One provisio though, some have found that there is a color problem when adding Boris BCC and Sapphire FX effects in VP17 as discussed in two recent posts on this forum.
