People don't always play nice. Flame wars start and before long you just have two people who are here to insult each other instead of helping everybody else. The "Ignore this User" button is intended to alleviate some of that by allowing a user to hide posts from others. People don't always use it, but the option is there.

Thanks, Ted H. Yours is a formative answer.
However, I would trust more in the Forum Moderator (to erase whatever does not seem fit in the peaceful mood of the Forum) than my own judgement. After all, if I ignore one User today because he is loosing temper, I may be missing some useful info that he provides tomorrow (between the flames).

sqblz, it's a tough call. When the moderators remove offensive posts, then you get lots of people complaining about censorship and lots of hard feelings develop. What might be offensive to some is merely acceptable levels of fun to some and "God given right" to express oneself to others. Of course, with that right should also come the responsibility to behave appropriately towards the rest of the community and respect for the forum as a whole.

Rather than try to make judgement calls, forum operators are better off posting some specific guidelines to be followed or allowing the end users to take care of their own filtering.
