Take the vox track and open it up in soundforge. Then open the "parameteric eq" plugin. There is a patch in there called "phone line effect"...preview/tweak it. Make a copy of it first and apply the effect to the copy[so that after reimporting if you don't like what it sounds like in the mix you do not have to rerecord the take]. I've written down those parameters and applied it to other eqs to see if I could get better results. If you have a eq of choice then try the settings on that one as well on another copy and see how it works. Later.

Or ... if you don't have Sound Forge ...

Sweep all of the lows out of the signal up to around 250Hz with a parametric EQ. Then sweep the highs off SHARPLY at 4,000Hz. This is very close to the actual bandwidth of voice phone calls, but it often leaves the voice unintelligable in a mix with other high-frequency material. If this is the case, sweep the highs up until you can understand what's being said, probably not much higher than 5,000 or 6,000Hz.

It's an over-used trick, but it works great for a lot of material.

Hope that helps!
