Image Cropping

Hey Guys. I understand that what I am about to ask really has nothing to do with Vegas but you guys where the the only people I could think of that could help me out...sorry?

I took a bunch of 6.3 mg images but didn't zoom in enough on my subject. I only want small prints so I thought I could go in now and crop them while retaining aspect ratio-like a digital zoom...

I wanted to know if any of you could recommend a piece of software to do this well?

Thanks and sorry again!

Photoshop, or believe it or not, Vegas. Vegas will limit you to 2K x 2K res but if that's enough you're sweet.

You want a graphics tool that has crop presets like 4x6 and 5x7. I have all my digital prints made at ofoto.com and they give you free PC program called OfotoNow that will crop with aspect ratio and do some minor red eye removal and brightness adjust for FREE. When you’re done, you just select the pictures you want to print and they get uploaded automatically so you can order them. I few days later you have prints on Kodak paper in your mail box at $0.29 each. You cannot print them at home that cheap after you finish buying photo paper and ink.

PhotoBrush by Mediachance is a nice photo retouch tool that has proportional crop along with lots of touchup tools. It’s only $45 USD. (they also make a great little batch processor called DCE AutoEnhance that will correct and resize images in batch mode. It’s an excellent tool to have in you kit)

There is also Paint Shop Pro from Jasc Software (just bought by Corel) It also has a proportional crop tool and a lot of other capabilities similar to Adobe Photoshop, but for a lot less money. (around $95 USD)

Microsoft Digitial Image Pro has a built in function for this. The program however is aimed at non-graphics people - so while it does alot, there are lots of things it doesn't do or is not flexible enough. Great for this function and printing lots of images in various layouts.

Jasc Paint Shop can do it sort of via serveral tricks. If the scale is correct, create a blank image with the correct size - paste it in and move it around for position. You also use canvas size and set the offsets. This is all with version 5 - newer versions may be better. AFAIK you can still download a trial and see if they have a better way.

I use both programs as the each do certain things better.

No tricks required. They are up to version 9 now. In version 8 they enhanced the crop function to apply any dimension crop you want. You can even create your own dimensions (like NTSC 4:3) and no matter how you scale it, it will retain the correct aspect.

Orcatek, You should seriously look at Paint Shop Pro 9 (or even 8). I doubt you will have any need to use two programs.

Thanks alot guys but I found a great piece of software that is FREE!

It's called FocusViewer and I downloaded it from downloads.com

It has a great croping tool with all presets already there aswell as many image touch up tools (red eye, brightness...etc).

Thanks anyway, fixler

Got tired of upgrading all the time.
