import bins?

i'm not at my editing pc at the moment, so i can't really look - (so if it's as simple as clicking 'import' - sorry for wasting your time ;-))

i'm going to working on a series of related projects (i don't like media manager, and it would appear overkill for what i want o do, perhaps?), which will share common threads (bins), which i will have preedited from the main footage into bins.

i would like to simply:

a. start new project

b. import 'example' bin from 'original footage' veg.

is this possible?

if not, how should i go about sharing a bin's content?

drag 'n' drop?

From what I've learned over the years this is Vegas's nemesis, bins.

You'd think one could open a tape in the trimmer and slice it up into scenes with sensible aliases e.g. Scene 35, shot 26 take 2 and dump them into bins, bins that could stick and be used across projects. It seems we're out of luck. I thought I was finally going to get my prayers answered with subclips but no.

What you can do is use projects as bins and then copy and paste events from one T/L to another, this is nowhere as flexible as bins and having aliases for clips.

The other approach I guess is to organise your clips at the Windows level using folders.

I can't say more right now but you can expect this capability and more to be delivery very, very soon by VASST. (wink, wink) ;-)

Drag "example" bin from master project and drop it on "media bins" folder icon in new project. You now have a copy of "example" bin in the second project. Has worked at least since V7, confirmed just now in V8b.

Bins can be drag-and-dropped to new projects, but last I checked (V7) all your custom names would be dropped, which was a real bugger.

still not back in front on my editing pc...

but i really thank you all for your input, and am looking forward to trying the various suggestions, especially rob's, which seems to be what i thought possible.....

in passing, i re-read a few archived media manager posts, and though they didn't tempt me to install it, i read that many people were using adobe bridge.

well i have cs3 with bridge, and while it works admirably for stills, avi's, it crashes on m2t's. are there any setting i need to make for it to work with m2t's?

thanks again
