Import DVD problems

Im_frustrated wrote on 7/25/2008, 6:12 AM
There is no option for me to select the firewire port when I go to import DVD.

I can go to capture video and capture live footage but not able to import anything other than a dvd.
I have tried two different cameras w/the firewire and same thing.

Device manager says its working properly. Running windows XP

PLS HELP!!!!!

The import DVD option is to import a DVD that is in your CD/DVD drive. It extracts the data directly from the disk.

The firewire port is used when CAPTURING.

So how do I get the video off the tape? Using canon HV20.
Thought I was able to pull straight from the tape to the VMS.

You connect the camera to the PC via the firewire cable and firewire PCI card. Then, you put the HV20 in "play" mode. Then, you click "capture from tape" or something, on Vegas. Then, you select "HDV" from the popup window (not plain DV). And then you select the IEEE device from the "Devices" menu, a button above the blue screen of capturing. Then, you press "play" and "record" below the blue screen on vegas. That's it.

Please note you need Vegas PLATINUM to capture HDV. The cheaper version of Vegas doesn't do HD.

Right. Go to import select DVD, camcorder...browse... my pc. There is no option for the firewire, only memory card slots and usb ports.

It is platinum too

Im,

Don't use IMPORT, either go to the MEDIA BIN and select CAPTURE VIDEO or go to FILE< CAPTURE VIDEO.

If you are trying to capture from tape, you do NOT use "import DVD", you use capturing, as I explained above. And you NEED a firewire port, without it you can not capture the video from the HV20 to your PC.

Thanks guys. Guess I was thinking since there was no sign of the firewire it wasn't there. Thought capture was to only get live recordings to the MS.

Thanks a heap!!!
