Import issues - error messages

KennyPenny wrote on 7/22/2010, 7:53 AM
In VMS Platinum 9.0b (Build 92), once I have imported a few clips in the project media, then add some more the program gives me an error message "Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation)" then shuts down. When I try to open up the program again it gives me the same error message and then continues to shut down.

I have been importing .mpg files.

Is there a limit of how many clips I can have in the project media area?

Any thoughts on how to solve this issue?

Thanks,
KP

While starting Vegas, hold down shift and CTRL. This will start the program in factory settings. At least, this should allow you to further investigate and run the program.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion. I did try this and set it back to factory settings. I am able to open up a new VMS project but when I try open up the previous project with my footage it gives me the error message and closes down. I have also tried to start a new project and import the footage again, but the same error message happens when I have half the footage imported.

Any other thoughts?

Your tests indicate it is either corrupt media or project. If you import the same media into a new project do you get the same error? If so, your media is the problem.

Saying it is .mpg really doesn't tell us much. What is the source of the media? Was it captured or converted? Download MediaInfo and post the full file details. Also upload a clip of the material that is causing the problem somewhere (MediaFire). Sometimes they can be fixed.

Here is a basic tutorial I posted sometime back. You may find parts of it helpful.

Thanks for your good suggestions musicvid!

I have tried to import the same footage into a new project and get the same error messages. Although it errors on different footage, so there seems to be no specific corrupt file, but maybe the whole files are challenging for VMS. But this is the first time it has done this - I have worked with the same camera and the import seems fine before. I am wondering if VMS has an import limit. Since this project has over 32 gigs worth and hundreds of import clips (but it seems that VMS should handle this).

I have deleted the latest Quick Time and downloaded QT 7.6. I will see if this helps too.

Thanks so much,

Hi,

I'd say that Vegas Movie Studio doesn't like the AC3-Audio. Vegas Pro won't import MPGs which contain AC3 and so Movie Studio will most certainly fail as well.

Regarding Vegas Pro there's a workaround which might work for Movie Studio as well, provided Movie Studio allows importing DVDs and Archtitect Studio is working similar to DVD Architect Pro. If so you should at first demux the MPG into its video and audio part (lots of freeware apps can do that for you). Then feed the resulting AC3 into DVD Architect and let it produce a DVD structure on hardisk with AC3- Audio (well, you might need to add a picture as well, can't remember presently). There's however no need to add any menu. The "production" of the DVD should be done in a few seconds as without video there's no need for longtime rendering.

In Vegas Pro you can thereafter import the "DVD" from the harddisk and it will import the AC3 audio as well.

Again, that's a possible workaround vor Vegas Pro but I can't say whether that'll work in Movie/Architect Studio as well.

Thanks for posting your file details.

There are two things you need to do, one of which you have already discovered.
1) Roll back to Quicktime 7.6 and iTunes 8.
2) Rename your file extension from .mpg to .vob

Your files should now work correctly in Vegas

Thanks again Musicvid!

I have renamed the file extensions from .mpg to .vob and the error message still occurs when I import these files. So I guess the files are corrupted.

Just curious, why does changing the file extension to .vob make a difference sometimes?

Do take care,
