import of MP4 the audio skips at short intervals!!

[IN LITTLE BIT OF A PANIC HERE...]
I am importing MP4 movies and the audio skips at a consistent short interval throughout (making it useless - 24 frames then 6 frames silence, etc.). This skipping of course is not really in the file. I am using VMS10.0.179 - I can't tell if there is an update.

This is a widespread problem affecting many people, and Sony couldn't care less. I opened a ticket back in June, they said they were aware of the issue, and have now closed the ticket.
