I have recently purchased CaptuRec presets from www.moviepresets.com but am unable to find any method of importing the presets to my Sony Vegas Pro 13. Could you please offer any assistance.
Just looked at the website you listed. These "presets" are LUTs (Look Up Tables) for color grading your footage. You would utilize these within the "fx" for Vegas Pro, then "browse" to the folder on your drive where you have them. I would assume that your download from that site was a "compressed" (.zip, .rar, etc.) file, which you would then have had to "extract" them to a folder you designate on one of your computer's drive(s). If you do not have a LUT plugin (sorry, don't have Vegas Pro 13 anymore, and it has been quite some time using it - one of the other forum members could chime in?), here is a link for one that did work in Vegas Pro 13 and 14 (works fine with Movie Studio 15 Platinum/Suite as well):
G'day Chief24, thanks for the above information. I have downloaded the VisionColor OFX LUT Plugin, and installed it. The LUT Presets have also been decompressed and placed in a folder.
I have opened a new Vegas Pro project (Test.veg) with a number of short video clips on the timeline. Do I need to place a video envelope on the video clip that I wish to add a video preset to? If not, can you please tell me the correct procedure. I am very new to this program, as you may be aware. Best regards, and Happy New Year. Cheers, Ron
The VisionColor OFX LUT should appear as an FX in Vegas Pro's Video FX folder. Just add the VisionColor LUT FX to the event on the timeline (as you would any other Video FX), and then use Filename:Browse in the FX to go to the particular LUT in the relevant LUT folder that you want to use.
Ron, as @Dexcon has pointed out how to apply a LUT using VisionColor FX on an event on a track in the timeline, you can also apply LUT's on the track level which will effect all events (clips) on that track, and you can apply a LUT's at the Project level (use FX button above the Preview window). You can also stack multiple LUT's FX's as well.
Thanks Dexcon and Eagle Six for your input. I'm a bit confused, but have somehow managed to add an FX to my Timeline. This however, affects the entire timeline. What I would like to know is: If I have for example, a 60 second video clip on my timeline, how do I change to a different effect at every 10 second mark?
... how do I change to a different effect at every 10 second mark?
You need to add the FX to the event itself. not the track. Adding at the track level affects every event on that timeline track, as you've discovered.
One way to do what you want is to split your 60" video event at each 10" point, as per the following example:
In this example (using a frozen frame), I've split the video event and then overlapped each event so that there will be a dissolve between any differing FX rather than an abrupt cut, but that's a personal choice for you as the editor to make.
Add your desired FX via the fx symbol (as highlighted buy the red arrows) to each video event. This way, the FX that you add to event 1 will not carry through to the following events.
I think that you may need to refer to Vegas Pro's User Manual and Tutorials to learn more about the basics of using Vegas Pro and FX.
Thanks Dexcon, That info has been a great help. The manuals have been printed out into 7 books as big as phone books! Locating the information but not knowing the jargon is difficult, but I'm slowly learning, with the help of you guys. I think using VegasPro would need a University degree and a Pilot's License. I need to put more practice time into this program. Thanks again.
