Yes. It is something in the 5D/7D files that affects all Windows editors, not just Vegas.
Do a search using the handy feature on these forums, also Google, to lead you to lots of discussion of this.

You can be certain the Sony developers are hard at work on this issue.

This make Vegas render useless for me!
Bye-Bye with 6+ years using Vegas video :(

Many of the pros here are using Cineform as an intermediate.
A few others are using Epic, which is less expensive than CF.
None of them are blaming Vegas.
So when you are done blaming Vegas you will have some things to try.
While you are being patient.

Actually, the problem is with Vegas too. Premiere also used to use Quicktime but it didn't crash nearly as much with MOV h.264 files. It was as slow, but not as crashy. Put on top the fact that quicktime for PC is just crashy all by itself, and we got ourselves a crash fest.

The easiest way to go around the problem is to install the Matrox AVI intermediate codec which is free: http://buildyourown.wordpress.com/2010/08/08/how-to-transcode-mov-files-using-matrox-codecs/ I transcode my h.264 MOV footage too.

I might add that the Canon-centric forums are full of problem reports with Premiere and 5D/7D footage, as well. Epic is worth a look as it was designed specifically for using these file in Vegas.

Ever try converting your video clips to another format? VMS wouldn't even see the MKV files I had..let alone work with them. Format Factory is Free (really is free too!!!, unlike so much out there claiming to be free) and quickly can format video, pictures and music into almost any known format.

Format Factory is a rather nondescript ffmpeg frontend (of which there are many) that hijacks your browser when you install it.
Nothing that comes with an unannounced price tag is "free" .
