Import Video from Handycam. Vegas Platinum 12.0

I am running SVMS Platinum 12.0 on a Windows 7 64-Bit Dell Desktop. I have a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV480. I have the Handycam connected to my pc via 1394 Firewire cable. SVMS won't recognize my camcorder. Neither will Microsoft Movie Maker. Its as if the camcorder is not even connected to the PC, which it is, I've checked connections etc. What am I missing here?

Thanks

There is something goofy about Windows 7 FireWire drivers. Try this:

Click Windows Start orb; type "device manager" into the Search box and select Device Manager (or launch Device Manager anyway you like)
*Swivel open the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" item
*Right-click on your listed 1394 controller; select "Update Driver Software"
*Click the "Browse my computer for driver software" button, followed by the "Let me pick from a list" button
*Select the option that has "(Legacy)" at the end of the name; click Next and let the driver be installed
*Close out of dialogs and retry capture

Thanks for the suggestion. I followed your instructions exactly and nothing changed. Still not recognizing Handycam. Thanks for your help.

Try turninng off device control.
An alternative capture program is Scenealyzer.

Have you captured successfully before with that cam on a different PC?

The cable could be bad.

Do you have access to an XP box with a FireWire port to test the cam and cable?
