Imported DV Video Shifts To Right

Problem: video imported into Vegas 4.0e from DV has fat black bar on left vertical edge (picture has shifted right)

The DV orignally was on a Betacam SP. It was transferred to Mini DV on a DVCAM DSR-45 recorder via YRB component cables. The DSR-45 was set to record in DV format. Tape was then placed in a Sharp DV camcorder and signal inported via Firewire normally. If I play the tape in a DVCAM or a Panasonic DV deck or import it into Media 100, it is centered/positioned fine.

During import and then when editing in Vegas the picture is markedly shifted right, as if horizontal positioning is whacked.

The rest of the show, which was originated on DVCAM, imports fine.

Is there a way to adjust horizonal position on import that I'm not aware of?

Probably there's nothing you can do while importing unless you can use some sort of video processor on the analog stage. However, after the video is captured you can use either Pan/Crop or Track Motion to move the image back over to the left. The problem will be that whatever was lost on the right edge won't be recovered. However, unless the shift is really big what has been lost may be outside the safe area anyway and wouldn't be missed on television screens.

Thanks. I thought of the pan/crop too.

What I don't understand is why it shifted in the first place only in Vegas when it looks fine on other players and editing platforms.

How much of a shift are you talking- like 10 pixels or something small?

Can you see this on a TV as well or just in the Vegas preview window?
