Imported Video Clip Not Displaying?

I just imported a few seconds of video into my project in Vegas 13, and though the audio plays just fine, the video does not display.

At first, I thought it was because its size (640x480) was different from my project's (1920x1080). So I opened the old video in a new 1920x1080 project and rendered a 1920x1080 version (mp4) of it. But when I imported it into Vegas again, the same problem occurred.

Any ideas on how I can get this video to display?

BTW, I have other video clips imported into this project that were created in the same way and are showing just fine.

Thanks!

Ken

Sounds like an issue with Vegas (windows) not understanding the video codec. Mediainfo, a free utility can help determine the codec contained in the file you are attempting to import. This info will help others in the forum help you determine the problem.

Rendering the file in Vegas, when Vegas does not understand the codec, will result in a blank image in the resulting file.

Thanks astar.

I tried rendering it out as an avi, and that worked...for a minute. Very strange. The video would show in the display for about 5 seconds, then when I rewound and played again, it would go blank just when that clip was supposed to show.

I was about to do what you said - go get the properties of the clip that DID work and the one that didn't and post it here. So I closed Vegas and re-opened it. And this time, the clip (the avi) showed just fine!

Sigh. Freakin' gremlins I guess.

Thanks again.

Oh wow! OK, I'm not afraid to show my stupidity:-P. Maybe someone else can prevent some stupid because of it. When I imported the video clip, I didn't need the audio because the main video already had narration going on. I silenced the audio on the clip by dragging down the envelope on its audio track (rather than simply deleting the audio track). the problem was that I ALSO was dragging down the opacity envelope on the video along with it! Duh.

Sigh. Well. You live - you learn.
