To import a video you simply drag n drop it to the Vegas timeline, that's the easiest way to do so. If the file is a .FLV one though, it won't work on Vegas.

the file is a avi.....what area of the timeline do i drop it....it has text, images and music

You drop it anywhere in the timeline, Vegas will place its video portion on a video track and its audio portion on an audio track automatically. Then, you can edit it. Make sure you click HELP and select the Interactive Help to learn how to use Vegas easily and visually.

hi again....

i did that....and it did work great....other than.....the music plays find but the image/text area just flickers.....what causes that???....if i just rener it as a wmv will that correct that????

Define "flickers". Also, you need to open the Project Properties window on Vegas, click the yellow icon and re-choose that AVI file. This might fix your flicker.

I have a similar problem. I imported a Vimeo file that I had uploaded to that site from a Cyberlink program. It was an flv file, and I picked it up ok in Vegas, but couldn't drag it anywhere. So i converted the flv to avi in a "Replay" program, and got it into Vegas, but couldn't drag it to the timeline.... then i converted it to mpeg-4 and it moved it to the timeline, along with the soundtrack. But frames were missing or in the wrong order.

After a while I noticed a popup on my screen that said something about how the file should be "interlaced "and something else about "crunch." The graph had three lines on it, red blue and green, plus a yellow timeline at the bottom.

I was using a bunch of "Replay" programs to convert and download. Maybe one of them volunteered.

Could anyone help me make sense of this? How do I get those missing frames back?
