Importing AVIs from Canon S400 still camera

My new still camera has a movie feature and I'd like to edit these in VV. When I try to load or import them, the only thing that loads is the soundtrack with no picture. Anyone know how to import these movies? I'm not sure what CODEC the camera uses, but the movies play fine in in the Widoze Media Player.

You need to install a motion-jpeg codec for vegas to be able to see them (search on the web for one).
Alternatively, you can render them in Windows Movie Maker (which probably will be able to load them properly) at a high bitrate, and load those into Vegas.

philfort's right...that is, if you got Win XP (MovieMaker solution)
A codec that works very ell for this is Morgan's codec (www.morgan.com). You got a free trial period after which you can buy it for a few bucks.
And there's more for sure on the web...

Thanks! XP's MovieMaker works. It's a little clunky to run every file through there first, but it's a start. I'll check out the direct import codecs as soon as I have time.
