Importing Clips from Canon XF 300 Camcorder

Does anyone use a Canon XF 300 Camcorder with Vegas Pro? I recently rented a Canon XF300 after reading and hearing many good reviews. I was basically pleased with the camera except for a couple of things. The picture I'm seeing in the viewfinder is a lot more saturated than what's recorded. That's not too big a problem -I just decrease the brightness
and increase the saturation on the recorded clips. The BIG problem for me (and where I need help) is importing clips. I can open the clips in Vegas (I use Pro 10) but must do so one at a time. The wedding I just taped had a couple of hundred clips. Imagine how long it will take me to import each clip on to the Vegas timeline. I called Canon support for help but the techs there are only familiar with Final Cut and Premiere software and were unable to help me. This is my first time using a camera with compact flash media. Can anyone out there help me? Thanks. Al

Are you using Vegas's Device Manager to get your video from your camcorder to your computer?

The Device Manager includes a preview playback tool.

Although the throughput over USB isn't terribly fast, so you'll never get good playback on your computer of video that is still on your cam.

The Device Manager shouldn't take all that long to import the video from your cam to the computer.

Download the free canon xf utility, it will allow joining of clips when necessary and will strip it down to just the MFX file which goes into Vegas just fine.

I have the XF300. As suggested, get the Utility. I usually export the MXF files as were shot into a folder; backup the MXFs immediately to another drive and one can also make a "virtual" media file.

I then use one set of MXFs directly into VP. I've done this in VP10 thru' VP12 with no issues.

the Canon XF utility and have backuped clips to an external drive but I still don't see how to import clips as a batch instead of as individual clips. Grazie, you mention using "one set of MXFs directedly into VP." What do you mean by that? I'm not sure what you mean by "VP". I'm sorry if I'm asking a stupid question...but I really don't know. The utility allows to Export to MXF. I use ONE set and COPY another set to an external HD as a "keeper". VP=Vegas Pro.

You're welcome. BTW, and IMO, that utility is not User friendly and doesn't reflect on the great functionality of the XF300. Canon should get busy with a XF300 User Focus group.

Sure, that's the easy bit. Want to swap receiving Folders for Export? Want to talk about the Virtual Media? The utility needs to be overhauled.
